SKIN CONSULTATION

What To Expect

At The Skin Trainer, consultations go far beyond quick skincare advice — they’re designed to fully educate you on how your skin functions, why it behaves the way it does, and what’s needed to truly transform it. That’s where Prologic comes in. This medically prescribed, results-driven skincare range plays a vital role in your skin journey. While in-clinic treatments are powerful, 80% of your results come from how you care for your skin at home.

Prologic is quite literally a treatment in a tube — and if budget is a concern, a tailored home care routine should always be your priority. Think of it like going to a personal trainer and then eating McDonald’s daily — professional treatments need to be supported by consistent, corrective home care. Prologic isn’t available for online purchase because it’s a prescription-only range that’s adjusted as your skin progresses — giving you complete confidence that your routine is always working for your skin.

Skin Consultation

Frequently Asked Questions

Your consultation with The Skin Trainer is a completely personalised, in-depth session that goes far beyond a standard skin analysis. Over the course of a full hour, Jodi will explore every factor that could be impacting your skin — from your current skincare products and routines to deeper lifestyle influences like hormones, stress, sleep, diet, medication, and health history. Using her 20+ years of industry experience and partnerships with medically approved skincare brands, Jodi will identify the root causes of your concerns, not just the symptoms.

You'll also receive practical, expert-led guidance in a 'Skin Training' format. This includes education on how your skin works, what it needs at different life stages, and how to build an effective, sustainable routine that suits your lifestyle. The goal is not only to improve your skin short-term, but to equip you with the knowledge and tools to keep it healthy and balanced for years to come. You’ll leave with a clear understanding of your skin’s needs, a tailored plan of action, and homecare recommendations based on your skin type, sensitivities, and goals.

Cancer therapies can cause significant changes in the skin, including increased dryness, sensitivity, redness, irritation, and thinning. That’s why traditional facials or beauty treatments can sometimes do more harm than good. Oncology-safe treatments, however, are carefully adapted to provide nourishment, comfort, and relaxation without overstimulating the skin or interfering with medical protocols.

Every client is treated with the utmost respect, care, and privacy. Your therapist is trained in oncology-safe protocols, which include the use of modified massage techniques, sterile practices, and ingredients that are not only gentle but healing. We also perform a full consultation prior to your first treatment, so we can understand where you are in your cancer journey and ensure you feel safe, supported, and in control.

These aren’t just facials — they are moments of stillness, dignity, and comfort during a time when your body and emotions may feel fragile. Many of our clients say their time at the clinic is one of the few moments they feel truly at ease during treatment.

Absolutely. The Consultation with Skin Training is designed specifically to support those who feel let down by one-size-fits-all advice. Whether you have sensitive skin, hormonal breakouts, menopausal changes, rosacea, post-cancer skin, or unexplained flare-ups, this service is built around understanding the bigger picture. Jodi has trained in trauma-informed care, hormonal wellness, and oncology-safe skincare, and her holistic approach ensures that every recommendation is medically safe, effective, and suited to your skin’s unique needs.

Rather than simply recommending products, the consultation looks at how your skin responds to stress, environment, nutrition, and other triggers. You’ll never be rushed or pressured — instead, you’ll be guided with empathy and evidence-based insight. The result is a plan that makes sense for you, not just a trend-driven routine. If needed, Jodi may suggest further skin therapy treatments, but the focus always begins with education, support, and a custom homecare strategy.

One of the most valuable aspects of receiving treatments during cancer therapy is the restorative power of touch. Human connection through safe, considered touch has been shown to reduce anxiety, lower cortisol levels, and support emotional regulation. In a period where clinical procedures are often invasive and impersonal, these treatments offer a gentle, healing alternative.

From a skincare perspective, many cancer treatments disrupt the skin’s natural barrier, leading to extreme dryness, itchiness, rashes, or changes in skin tone and texture. Oncology-safe facials are designed to support the skin’s recovery by providing hydration, strengthening the barrier, and helping to reduce inflammation. The Jennifer Young range we use has been developed with medical professionals and cancer patients to ensure it supports — not challenges — your body’s healing process.

Energy treatments like Reiki can also help rebalance the nervous system, support emotional processing, and bring a sense of peace. Many clients describe Reiki as a “reset” for the mind and body, helping them to cope better with treatment side effects, fatigue, and emotional strain.

These therapies aren’t just about beauty — they’re about care, self-worth, and giving yourself permission to feel held, supported, and seen during a time of vulnerability.

It’s helpful, but not essential, to bring a list (or photos) of any products you're currently using — skincare, supplements, or medication. This gives Jodi a clear view of what your skin is being exposed to and whether your current routine could be helping or hindering your results. If you're on any prescribed medication, particularly hormonal or dermatological, having this information on hand can help tailor your consultation even further.

If you're unsure of your skin type or what your main concern is, don’t worry — that’s exactly what the consultation is designed to uncover. You don’t need to prepare anything in advance unless you want to. Just come with an open mind and a willingness to explore how your skin behaves and what it might be trying to tell you. The space is relaxed, private, and completely focused on you.

That said, if your oncology team has given you specific restrictions around massage, skincare, or topical applications, we always recommend discussing your intentions with them first. Our treatments are non-invasive and use medically approved skincare products, but your comfort and safety are our priority, and we welcome collaboration with your healthcare providers when appropriate.

During your consultation, we’ll ask about:

  • The type and stage of your treatment (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery, etc.)

  • Any side effects you’re experiencing (e.g. nausea, fatigue, skin changes)

  • Your energy levels and comfort preferences

  • Areas of the body to avoid due to medical devices, lymph node removal, or tenderness

This information helps us tailor your experience with precision. For example, if you’ve had lymph nodes removed, we will avoid certain massage techniques or positions that could compromise lymphatic flow. If you’re experiencing nausea, we can adapt scents and positioning to reduce discomfort.

You are always in control of your treatment — nothing will ever be done without your full consent. Our goal is to create a safe, comforting space where you feel empowered, nurtured, and respected at all times.

Yes — following your consultation, Jodi will create a personalised Skin Training plan. This will include suggested at-home skincare products, lifestyle tips, and (if appropriate) treatment recommendations tailored to your needs and budget. All products recommended are clinically proven, dermatologist-approved, and chosen for their safety, performance, and suitability for your skin’s current state — including during pregnancy, menopause, or recovery from illness.

Unlike standard consultations that lead to a hard sell, The Skin Trainer’s approach is results-led and pressure-free. You’ll receive honest guidance, not a script. The plan you take home is yours to work with at your own pace. You may choose to implement the homecare first and return for treatments later, or you may begin a treatment plan straight away — the choice is always yours.

Most high street consultations last 15–30 minutes, are product-focused, and often skip past the real underlying issues. The Skin Trainer consultation is a full 60-minute immersive experience, with attention given to every factor affecting your skin — including emotional wellness, hormonal health, and environmental stressors.

Jodi’s depth of experience, particularly in supporting clients with menopausal skin, post-cancer recovery, and sensitive or trauma-affected skin, ensures that each consultation is grounded in clinical knowledge and compassionate care. You'll be seen as a whole person, not just a skin type.

This is more than skincare — it’s about empowerment, clarity, and long-term results. You’ll walk away with more than a few product names; you’ll leave with an education and a strategy tailored to your life, your needs, and your future.

Yes — and it’s more important than many realise. While your in-clinic treatments deliver targeted results, Prologic home care helps maintain and build on those results daily. Without the correct support, you risk undoing the progress made in your sessions. Prologic is a treatment in a tube — clinically formulated and prescribed based on your skin's condition and goals. If you’re on a budget, prioritising home care over ad-hoc treatments is actually the more effective and sustainable route to long-term skin health.
